"Wonderful staff"

About: Leicester General Hospital / Urology

I was a patient on ward 26 after surgery and the staff were lovely, very kind and caring. However, the heat was unbearable and as a result I was unable to sleep at all. The fan behind me on the wall was broken and there was one fan on the floor of the ward which was not adequate enough to cool the ward. I was concerned not only for myself and fellow patients but the staff also. Such a hot ward would surely affect their ability to work and be comfortable and I noticed that many staff members were so rushed off their feet that they rarely drank anything. I am unsure what the hospital policy is on allowing staff to bring water bottles into wards and keeping them at nurse stations, but it’s certainly something that should be encouraged. The staff worked incredibly hard through such terrible heat and tried hard to make sure patient’s needs were met. The heat in that ward is definitely something that I feel should be addressed for staff and patient saftey as it made recovery from surgery very difficult. My thanks to all the staff on ward 26 for working so diligently and providing such good care.
