My mother had the misfortune of being admitted to Ward 5 and was there for 5 weeks, we were passed from consultant to consultant before a diagnosis was given, the ward Drs couldn't be bothered to talk to us or turn up for ward rounds between the hours stated, we turned up to be told Drs were on holiday or had phoned to say not doing rounds after waiting for over 2 hours.
I found my Mother on the floor surrounded by her own faeces crying for help, I was left with a bowl of soapy water, the auxiliary said he would help me in a short while, over half an hour later when I had cleaned my Mum and her room I went to find help so I could lift her to clean her bottom, he ambled back in the room with no sense of care or interest.
I did not like the fact that men were attending to Mum's personal care.
I found her medication on the floor and in her bed, she was left without her glasses or hearing aids, she was soaking wet on numerous occasions, the whole experience was dreadful, not only being told she was terminally ill but then having to nurse her to try and make sure she was as comfortable as possible.
Departments did not communicate with each other, my concerns were ignored until I started to complain officially, she fell out of bed and had to have an x-ray because she'd hurt her hip, luckily she had not broken it! The whole experience was an absolute disgrace, I felt the care industry did not care at all.
"Treatment of terminally ill Mother disgraceful"
