I gave birth at Queen Charlotte and would highly recommend it. I had signed up for the birth centre but as my labour was slow in progressing and I was finding the contractions very painful with no pain relief other than panadol (gas and pools are available but my labour was too early) I decided to transfer up to the labour ward so I could get an epidural. Unfortunately the labour ward was quite busy at that time so I had to wait for a couple of hours before I could transfer. Once I transferred the team, in particular the midwives, were excellent, explaining the steps and risks clearly and ensuring I was on board with all decisions. They were very supportive and encouraging and allowed me to have a similar birth experience to the birthing centre with the benefit of an epidural. They gave me lots of useful advice and helped me get a good latch after birth which has been extremely helpful since. The doctors were around in case they were needed but didn't interfere once they deemed it under control.
"Great birth experience, lovely midwives"
