I write on behalf of my grandmother who has returned from seeing the same rheumatologist several times and each time has been very upset. My grandmother is known for being a “tough cookie” and is one to get on with things despite being 86. You can therefore understand my anger when she informed me that she was told that she cannot have any medication as she “would die”. The consultant then leant over her and said “you have to learn to live with the pain”. Her GP has since given her some medication and she has a referral to the pain clinic. Everyone she knows who has seen this consultant (and my gran is very sociable) has said they have also had concerns. I worry about those who are even more vulnerable being seen by this consultant.
