I ended up in A&E at Southend hospital three times in a month and each time had a dreadful experience. My baby was brought to hospital in ambulance twice due to severe allergic reactions. I couldn't fault the ambulance team, which was great on both occasions. However, our experience in hospital was a completely different story. First time we were sent to the out-of-hours GP. After waiting a few hours the doctor was very dismissive and did not offer any support or advice. The next day we were again at the A&E due to an anaphylactic reaction to an unknown allergen. No tests were offered, the A&E physician decided we should go home. When we insisted to be seen by pediatrician we were sent to the paediatric department only to wait another 5h for a 2-minute consultation with a pediatrician who was extremely dismissive. She refused to replace our epipen (that I had to use that morning) and constated my baby must have had a mild allergic reaction, dismissing all the reported symptoms which clearly pointed to an anaphylactic reaction. We received no support whatsoever in a very distressing situation after two lie-threatening episodes. Our last visit to the A&E is yet another story of a complete lack of compassion and I still can't get over being treated just like a number in a queue rather than a human being.
"A&E - poor service and indifferent staff"
