I am currently under the Hewitt Centre waiting to start IVF treatment. The waiting times are ridiculous. Myself and my partner had already been through 6 months of fertility testing at the beginning of the year and where told to come back in 6 months when we would be eligible for IVF. Having been re-referred 6 months later we received our funding approval fairly quickly but then where told our fertility tests needed to be checked - this took 6 weeks! Each time I rang the Hewitt Centre I was told they where having staffing issues and I would hear from them at the end of the week (which didn’t happen). When I contacted them on the 5th week of waiting the receptionist was very rude and basically told me to stop phoning. After finally receiving a letter which stated they wanted to re-check blood tests (the reason for this wasn’t explained) I then waited 2 weeks to have the blood tests - I was told the reason for the wait was so they could check them in-house which speeds up result times. After having the blood tests I was told by the nurse bloods are only checked once a week on a Thursday (it was Friday) so I’d have to wait a week for my bloods to even be checked!! Then I was informed by the receptionist they’d contact me in 2 weeks to make me a consultation and the current waiting time for that consultation is another 2 weeks! I have worked as a nurse in the Women’s hospital and I know that blood results can be achieved on the same day - it’s baffling to me that I would need to wait 2 weeks for blood results!! I honestly don’t think the staff or the management of this centre realise just how much extra stress they are adding to couples who are already in an extremely stressful situation!
