"Mum's stroke and excellent care"

About: University Hospital Wishaw / Stroke Unit (Ward 11)

(as a relative),

Mum had a stroke in May and was admitted to Ward 11 via the Ambulatory Care Ward. From the ambulance staff who brought her in to A&E to her admission to ward 11, she was well cared for. I can't recall all the names of staff in Ward 11 but will make special mention of Stuart for his cheery manner and nothing's any bother attitude together with his skill in handling Mum. Amanda (fantastic specs!), Amy (toorie) and Claire, student nurses were exceptionally attentive, caring and interested in Mums' nursing background. Others who stood out were Ella, Nicola, McKella and big John. Special thanks to Netta, domestic assistant - a real breath of fresh air, always bright and smiling, who encouraged Mum to eat and drink and made great cups of hot tea with biscuits or cake. Also thanks to students from Motherwell College who did Mum's hair.

Others who contributed their expertise and care - radiographers, maxillofacial surgeon, Nicola from the pharmacy, dietician, physios who got her moving again and occupational therapist, porters, labs for blood tests. A special mention to the excellent and efficient aftercare service from Stroke Nurses Mary who came to support her move to more suitable housing and Kate who visited again to discuss progress and explained stroke fatigue.

Thanks to all for kindness, care and support not only for Mum but 97 year old Dad and the rest of the family.
