"Not great"

I've been admitted to the becklin centre on 3 separate occasions, the staff were lovely but the whole place was pretty slack in terms of security, on many occasions patients on my ward smuggled drugs and alcohol into thier rooms, I brought a gym bag full of clothes from home straight into my ward room without being searched or the bag being checked. The courtyard could do with monitoring more as on evenings male and female patients are allowed to just mingle even though some are clearly heavily medicated and vulnerable and some male patients very unstable and manipulative. Overall it just needs tighter supervision and patients do need to be watched more closely, I've seen several patients whom I stayed with on my ward and they seem no better if not worse from when I saw them in hospital 🤷‍♂️.

Hello,

My name is Maureen Cushley and I am the Inpatient Services Manager at Leeds and York Partnership NHS Foundation Trust. Firstly, I would like to thank you for sharing your comments with us. We aspire to provide outstanding services so your feedback is very important to us as it will help us to learn and improve.

I would like to highlight to you the work we have implemented to improve the security and experience of those using the Becklin Centre.

• We have employed the security services of Leeds Teaching Hospital Trust who now complete three patrols per day around the perimeter and inside the Becklin Centre.

• We are actively working with the local police around drug use in the centre and have had the drug dogs in the ward as well as police presence.

• We have begun a programme of work between inpatient staff, led by the practice development nurse, and Forward Leeds, the alcohol and drug service in Leeds for adults, young people and their families.

As you will understand, the Becklin Centre is an open inpatient unit which delivers acute care with least restrictive measures. We aim to provide a therapeutic environment which is a collaborative partnership with the people using the service. If we do have cause for concern we will search as appropriate and required but this is not completed as a standard.

I would like to assure you that we will take your views forward into the above programme of work, in order for it to inform service improvement.

If you would like to meet with me to discuss you concerns in greater detail, our PALS team will be able to facilitate this meeting, please contact them on 0800 052 5790.
