"Accessible toilet facilities"

About: Royal Cornwall Hospital (Treliske) / Trauma and orthopaedics

(as a service user),

Due to a leg injury I am in a wheelchair.  I visited Cornwall Royal Cornwall Hospital in Truro today.  Staff were lovely however in the loo I realised that the waste bin is only operated by a foot pedal, no use if you can’t use your foot.

No wonder I have seen paper towels in the sinks or on the floor in these facilities.

Very unhygienic and unacceptable.

Dear Dizzycreak,

Thank you for taking the time to tell us about this issue. You are absolutely right to point this out and I have discussed this with the waste manager here at Treliske.

We have recognised that this is a problem and are looking into replacing the foot pedal bins with bins that are fitted with a sensor in the disabled facilities. While we have identified a potential replacement bin we need to confirm that is suitable for a hospital / high use environment.

Once this is confirmed and approved we will begin a replacement program.

Kind regards

Claire Billing
