"Physiotherapy care and Neurology in Dundee"

About: General practices in Tayside Kings Cross Hospital Ninewells Hospital / General Surgery Ninewells Hospital / Neurology

(as the patient),

I had second to none physiotherapy care building up to and after receiving a micro discectomy in NHS Tayside.

I developed debilitating constant back pain and sciatica following the birth of my second child.  This was likely down to poor posture when holding my heavy toddler.

I was referred and seen quickly to the Working Health Service at Kings Cross initially, due to being self employed.  I was seen within a week by Catherine Lamont who is both highly experienced, friendly and has a fantastic bedside manner.  I was also seen by Occupational Therapist Shona who helped with advice on my work station as well as provide advice on grants available for specific office equipment.

My surgery was conducted by David at Ninewells Hospital.  He was kind, informative and I never felt rushed when speaking with him about my options and surgery.  Following surgery, although it was a success, I suffered post operative inflammation for several months. He saw me again and arranged for an urgent MRI too.  My GP  at Mill Practice, Arthurstone Medical Centre, Sally, supported me throughout this also.

Catherine, my physiotherapist insisted I stayed on her books until I was fit to go and was flexible again. She worked with me, sometimes weekly and advised gentle gym sessions and walking.  Over time I started to improve.  Her reassurance and kindness throughout this difficult time was very much appreciated as I was starting to feel pessimistic about whether my surgery had worked.

10 months on from surgery and I am back to doing the things I love. Exercising, jogging, working (needs must!) and spending time with my family without consent pain.  I am forever grateful for service, knowledge and care I received.
