"Being a nurse and a patient. Hmmmm"

About: Stepping Hill Hospital / General surgery

(as other),

As a nursing staff member I am aware what good care is and am vocal and critical of bad care

I’ve just had knee op. I was very very anxious. A big thank you to; Prof Johnson for his care & skill, the anaesthetic nurse Eva and Anaesthetist Sarah & D6 especially Rachel & Esther. There were a few others including the sister. as well but didn’t get their names. I was so nervous (it’s not easy being the patient when you’re used to being the carer and doer) they all played their part in helping me cope. I felt really cared for, so a big thank you for superb care. Ps the drugs have worn off so this is my real drug free opinion!!!

As a nursing sister this whole experience has reminded me of the importance of being mindful of each individual’s fear and anxiety around our vulnerability when not so well. I’m obviously used to the environment, but being on a ward as a patient gives a different perspective. I will continue to strive to be so mindful and encourage it in others.

Thank you for taking the time to describe your positive experience whilst a patient in our care. I am pleased to hear that you were well cared for and I hope that you are continuing to recover well from your surgery.
