"Wisdom Tooth Removal"

About: Guy's Hospital

I attended Guy’s after being referred by my dentist to have all four wisdom teeth removed. When it came to meeting the dentist at Guy’s it was decided that I have a CT scan to check that there was to be no risk of my lower left extraction interfering with the nerve. All that was a-okay, so with that I was booked in. Initially, I was offered two surgeries as to allow me to chew with one side of my mouth whilst the other healed, but with me being due to emigrate yo Australia 5 weeks later Guy’s very kindly allowed me to have all four extracted in one fell swoop! At this stage I was given the choice of local or general anaesthetic, of which I chose the former. On the day of the extraction, all staff were highly reassuring both before and during the removal. The bottom two had to be chopped into two pieces in order for them to be take out, but this proved no huge feat for my surgeons. I was given sound advice on aftercare and prescribed some high strength painkillers, though I never needed up actually using them. It took several weeks after for me to open my jaw fully, and the sites even after over a month remain a little sensitive, but this is perfectly normal - I spent many nights worrying and panicking I may never eat a pie again, but it’s not the case! Since being abroad I have visited the dentist here who has continued to reassure me a very decent job was done on my teeth and they are healing well, if a little slowly. I couldn’t fault the staff at Guy’s a jot.
