What a fantastic team to deal with. Sensible, pragmatic, empathetic and above all kept asking what does the patient need?
We were in the middle of a traumatic experience regarding my sister being threatened with legal action because she wanted to move home to Scotland directly from Frank Cooksey Rehab Unit, Kings College, from London (after having had a stroke and a bleed on her brain and had been in hospital for 7 months) because they had never done it before. Even though I had secured a suitable home and was about to contact the local hospital's OT's to assess it.
We didn't know where to turn when I was told about the stroke coordinators. The whole MCN teams attitude was a breath of fresh air. Not to forget all the OT's and physios at Coathill. Nothing was a problem to them, they were supportive from our 1st conversation and again, every step of the way, they asked what does the patient need?
My sister has now been home for a few weeks and we couldn't have done it without the help and support of this wonderful team. Their attitude is to be commended and we as a family will be eternally grateful for your persistence and kindness. Also, her follow up care since returning home has been fantastic. She has already received several physio and speech therapy sessions, and if she needs a piece of equipment, it magically appears a couple of days later!
