"They're there if I need them"

About: Inclusion Thurrock (Talking Therapies)

(as a service user),

I suffer from depression and anxiety. I reached out to Inclusion when i had a serious depressive episode and realised i needed help. Right from the phone assessment i felt i was being listened to. They were interested in trying to find me the right method of therapy that would work and help me with my problems. Because im in full time employment i could only do appointments after work. This meant that i had to wait quiet a bit for a spot to open up, but i say it's worth the wait when you finally get there so don't feel discouraged. In the mean time they put me on their Time for Change course, which was a weekly session for 4 weeks. It went over what therapy was, what different types were on offer, how to find the best one for you. I found this course to be crucial. I've had therapy before, with private counselors mostly but to no success. Looking back after the Time for Change course i realised they were't successful because i didn't know what i wanted out of counselling Now i had this knowledge i knew what needed to be done.

The first one to one counselling sessions were not easy. It was hard and trying sometimes, but i was warned about this by Inclusion. My advice is stick with it, and soon you'll begin to understand what your counselor is doing. There's reason behind every action they take which you won't see straight away, They get you to really think and find new ways to approach the issues. I soon began realising that anxiety was my major issue and not the depression after all, it all just stemmed from the anxiety. They normally have a patient around for 12 sessions but i went over to about 16 because the counselor (who was a very wonderful person) wanted to address all the issues i brought up and wanted to put the time in.

Im now in recovery and attempting to go it on my own for a bit to practice what i've learned. But they offer you many other recovery sessions to help teach you a bit more about how to cope with how you feel. At some point i will take these sessions up if i feel i may be slipping again. For now though it';s good to know that Inclusion Thurrock is there if i need them,

Dear Fulcrum

Thank you so much for your very warm and honest feedback. I hope the actual process of sitting, and writing down your experience was a positive and strengthening experience for you!? Reflecting on your journey and what you have learned is a vital part of being resilient in your day to day life.

You obviously went through that process as you discovered that anxiety lay at the root of your struggles, then looked at how to tackle it....

Your account is a great example of how we all struggle to try and find the time to do everything we need..........

Fitting things in around work or family can become a barrier to treatment but we are absolutely clear with clients that they need to prioritise their own immediate needs and we can find a way to overcome these obstacles - and its worth it! You are worth it.

I'm so pleased you found the right support for your needs and from all the staff at Inclusion Thurrock we wish all the very best for your future.

Many thanks

Paul
