"Oncology appointment"

About: Blackpool Victoria Hospital / Clinical oncology

My mum has previously had skin cancer, albeit 30 years ago.

And was re-referred from GP practice, with suspected growth.

Only to be informed in writing that there are no new referrals bring accepted.

This is not acceptable.

My mum asked if she could use choose and book to go to RPH, only to be told on the phone that that is not allowed.

So she then had to wait for another GP appointment just to see if she could be referred to RPH.

My mother is already worried as originally it took 3 appointments before she was allowed a biopsy, which was malignant, and had spread, and needed a lot more skin removed than would have been needed had this been picked up sooner.

Thank you for this feedback. I am sorry to read that your mother found our dermatology services inaccessible at a time when she needed reassurance and support. I can only imagine the worry she went through and this is not acceptable. I would appreciate if if you could contact our team with your contact details so that we can look into this immediately on 01253 955588 /bfwh.patient.relations@nhs.net.

Kind regards

Eleanor
