"End of Life Care"

About: Chelsea & Westminster Hospital / Accident and emergency Chelsea & Westminster Hospital / Palliative medicine

(as a relative),

A distant cousin of my wife was admitted to the Chelsea and Westminster with Sepsis. She was admitted to intensive care and was able to speak to staff. She had lost touch with nearer family and gave my wife's name as Next of Kin. A doctor called Jude took the trouble to contact us and spent 45 minutes to assure herself and her team that they were absolutely clear about the decisions about treatment that my wife's cousin was saying. Notably, she also took care to check how my wife was feeling about the situation.

The cousin passed away in a palliative ward about a week later. My wife phoned to enquire about when and how that had happened. She had passed on that morning and the charge nurse had just come on shift, but was informed about the sequence of events and timings. It had been a peaceful death.

Thank you all.
