In late July my daughter became ill with what we thought was a cold and cough, however, in the early evening she developed a rash and high temperature and felt awful. We phoned 111 who told us to go to the nearest A&E. On arrival the triage service recognised straight away how poorly she was and we were seen immediately. They assessed her for meningitis and sepsis, took blood and put her on a drip. We were given antibiotics for her chest, because the Dr said the bloods showed she was fighting an infection and possibly had scarlet fever, and sent home. By the next morning my daughter was worse and the rash had intensified and it occurred to me that it might be measles. Following a check of the NHS website and a conversation with the GP it was decided it was in fact measles. On reflection it occurred to me that going to A&E probably wasn't the best advice and I was surprised that the Dr in A&E didn't think of measles, considering the NHS website says there is an epidemic at the moment. I did phone Musgrove Park Hospital A&E to inform them that it was measles the following day. All the staff we met were really lovely and obviously very busy but I thought I should give feedback so that staff can be made aware of the symptoms.
