"Parking issues"

About: New Victoria Hospital (Glasgow)

(as a service user),

I live several miles to the north west of Glasgow. There is no direct public transport from where I live to New Victoria. It would take a convoluted trip of about three hours to get there, if I ever did, and presumably three hours back.

Forget taxies, I haven't won the lottery.

I have to go by car. When I get there I find that it is practically imposible to find a parking space, and there is no one in charge to guide you to any spaces that might be available.

If my wife drives me there, where does she park? Miles away, and has to hang arround for hours waiting till I can contact her to pick me up.

How many appointments do patients miss through not being able to get to the hospital. How much co2 is the Victoria contributing to the atmosphere by the patients driving round in circles for ages?

Dear abbj

Thank you for your email. I was genuinely sorry to hear of your difficulties parking at the New Victoria Hospital

As you experienced, demand at the New Victoria Hospital is intense, so it's not unusual for the surface car park to be full at peak times. Although spaces there become available again reasonably quickly, it’s really frustrating if there's none when you arrive. If that happens again, there are also patients/ visitor bays in the underground car park (accessed at the far end of the surface car park) and in a satellite car park on Grange Road (adjacent to the main hospital). Our experience is there is normally art least some bays available between the three areas. If your wife is driving, she could use drop and pick up bays near the entrance, which would let you to get to your appointment in good order, before returning to park the car.

There is a full time Car parking Attendant on the site. If you need help, and cannot immediately locate the Car Parking Attendant, please advise reception staff, who will make contact on your behalf.

I don’t know where you travel from but if you need advice on the best public transport options to get to any NHSGG and C site, I recommend you access the Traveline Scotland Website on https://www.travelinescotland.com/lts/#/travelInfo

Update posted by abbaj (a service user)

If you had read my complaint, you would know I come from Milngavie, I have also explained about public transport.

Where am I supposed to park when asking at the reception desk for the whereabouts of the attendant?

On my last visit I did try outside, and under building car parks, getting a place after about 15 minutes and a lot of stress.

Your suggestion of my wife dropping me off still does not solve the problem of her picking me up me up again.

In my opinion your reply is one of the unhelpful answers one has unfortunately come to expect these days.

My suggestion

Either put someone efficient in charge of the parking, or extend it. Did nobody consider the parking situation before designing the place?
