"Broken finger, hand trauma team."

About: Aberdeen Royal Infirmary / Hand Trauma service

(as a service user),

I unfortunatly broke my finger and required the hand trauma team to fix it. I felt a little worried about having to receive surgery and being awake to have it done.   The anesthetist was very good at putting me at ease and explained the procedure and continued to explain what he was doing and how my arm would feel.   The student nurse and nurse that were with me were brilliant, we chatted throughout the anesthetic procedure and this really helped take my mind off it. The surgeon was extremely good and managed to line my finger up without having to put screws or pins in.   All staff involved were very helpful, kind and caring and it made the experience a little less daunting.   Thankyou!

Dear BASmith,

First of all please accept my apologies for the time it has taken to share a response with you. Although your feedback was passed through to the right service, and we are grateful you took the time to let us know about your experience, we didn't let you know when we should have.

The hand trauma team work hard to deliver a person centred service and I’m glad the good explanations and kind, caring staff helped make your experience a little less daunting. The team will be delighted to have received such positive feedback.

I noticed in the story summary that you have noted the waiting area could be improved. If you have a minute it would be great to hear back with more information as it will help us know where to focus improvement for future patients.

Hopefully your finger has recovered well from its break.

Take care,

Kirsten

Update posted by BASmith (a service user)

For the waiting area, maybe just some magazines and a radio to take your mind off whats about to happen. Maybe some wall art to make it a more relaxing environment. Thanks once again for all the teams help.
