"Calm and supportive staff :)"

About: BPAS Richmond CC/Clinic

I had the dialation and evacuation procedure a couple of weeks ago, it was of course a difficult time and I did a lot of research on how this would go to prepare myself.

Thasking e procedure was over two days on the first day was the injection of feticide and having dialators inserted. I met with the nurses first and they spoke with me explaining the procedure and going over paperwork, they ensured that I knew everything and ensured that I understood what would be happening. There was a long wait which they apologised for and they explained that it was because it was their first day of the week open so it was busy. Before the injection and dilators a nurse gave me something to change into and led me through to the theatre, I was anxious but everybody was calm which relaxed me. They also showed me where I would go afterwards to help me remain calm. During the feticide injection, they put up a screen so I didn't have to see anything, A lovely nurse spoke with me, keeping me distracted and just asked about my life and how I was feeling, it was very comforting as it was an uncomfortable situation. I wasn't ever exposed when I didn't need to be, when they needed to move me to put in the dilators, I was covered, I was given the choice to have the screen up again when having the dilators inserted but I wasn't bothered. Everybody was supportive and understanding as I was in mild pain, they took me through to the recovery room and my observations were checked and i was offered biscuits and a drink. I have quite bad period cramps so I wasn't in a massive amount of pain, they gave me a round of antibiotics and then I was allowed to leave after they explained everything to me, including that I couldn't eat in the morning or drink after 6:30am as it was first thing in the morning. The antibiotics made me feel ill but this was due to issues in the past, I was sick later but the pain was quite bearable, just bad period cramps really. Sleeping was difficult as i kept waking up, this may have been because of the stress, the pain or that where we were staying was quite noisy but i made sure i drank everytime I woke up. The next day I went to the clinic and had to wait a rather long time which made me very anxious and there were others with my name so I kept on getting called up to find out it wasn't me. When I went into they asked me how I was feeling and apologised for the wait as I'd been waiting 4 hours to go into surgery, it was almost immediately after I went to the theatre. I changed and the surgeon spoke with me, they hooked me up to everything and once they were ready they out in the anaesthetic and next thing i knew i was awake. I immediately asked if it had happened and a nurse confirmed and let me rest for a bit whilst regularly checking my obs and giving me drinks, everybody took care of me and explained things ensuring I understood. They checked my bleeding and I had to speak to a few more nurses and take more antibiotics. Then I was discharged
