(as a parent/guardian),

My daughter was recently diagnosed with autism and at the time the Community Paediatrician gave me some information leaflets regarding the diagnosis and further help. While reading these I came across the Early bird courses ran by the National Autistic Society and I am wondering if there are any similar ran by NHS in our area? (North Lanarkshire). I have spoken with other parents who are very keen to attend these courses if they were available to help support our children and would be very grateful if you would consider running such courses in the near future.

I'd also like to mention the Speech Therapist (Airdrie based) involved with my daughter from the start of the process has been fantastic in her role, very professional and always willing to help by offering advice when times were tough for my girl. I will always be grateful for the suggested strategies and advice given

Dear apriltr47

Thank you for taking the time to feedback on your experiences with health services. I am glad that you found the Speech Therapist helpful and will certainly pass on your kind words to the Airdrie SLT team.

The Early Bird courses are run by Education staff as far as I know and therefore you would be best to ask your daughter's school or nursery about this.

We do offer a parent course which is a Hanen More Than Words Course and also Social Communication workshops for parents. I am not sure what age your daughter is or whether this has already been discussed with you so I would advise that you could contact the Airdrie SLT team for further information.

Hi Pauline

My daughter is 7 years old.I will ask her Head Teacher on her return to school about the Early Bird Plus course.We have already attended the Social and Communication workshop while awaiting her assessment and found this very helpful.This was suggested by her Speech Therapist at the time and I think if she knew of any other course that would benefit my daughter that would be suggested too.
