"Determined to save life and give total care"

About: Brooksby Day Hospital / Occupational Therapy Crosshouse Hospital / Stroke Care Scottish Ambulance Service / Emergency Ambulance

(as a service user),

My husband had a stroke in Oct '18.  From the moment the lady answered my 999 call I felt as if everyone wanted to save his life - and they did.

The ambulance boys "got him ported" with a cannula etc & by the time we got to Crosshouse their specialists were waiting as TIME of 4 1/2 hours so important. They did the correct procedure for him and kept us informed with care and understanding.  The high dependency ward staff were just wonderful and nursed him through several complications - great teamwork- again care and understanding.

He got home 4 weeks later with another team of advisors from Irvine after care from Nov - Feb - excellent

From Feb - July we had the excellent care and physio from Brooksby Occupational Therapy team.  They thought of everything for us and gave us great attention which gave us the confidence to cope. We couldnt have managed without them.

We really cannot praise the different NHS teams enough. They showed that they are determined to save life and give total care to survive after a stroke.  We are very lucky to have such a wonderful NHS in this corner of Scotland

Dear couragebc76,

Thank you for sharing your story. The Scottish Ambulance Service emergency call handlers are specially trained (as you would expect!) to manage any type of call but it is really pleasing to hear that from the moment that 999 was called you felt assured.

If you want to, please could you contact me on 0141 810 6101 and I can then share your lovely feedback with the staff member concerned.

I hope that your husband continues to make a good recovery.

Pat

Dear couragebc76,

It is so nice to read your feeback in relation to your husbands experience. There are so many departments and services involved in care and it is lovely to hear that the care was good at all stages.

I am delighted that you found your husbands care to be good within the acute stroke unit. I can only imagine how difficult a time this must have been for your husband and your family. We often described the first few weeks like a rollercoaster with many ups and downs. As well as all the technical aspects care and compassion are so important

Thank you for taking the time to post your feedback which I will ensure is shared with the team. It is great to hear that your husband is progressing well on his road to recovery.

Best wishes

Christine
