"Inpatient stay"

About: University Hospital Wishaw / Cardiology (Ward 4)

(as a volunteer/advocate),

Ward 4. Nurses have outstanding. Very well looked after. Great to be in 4 bedded room. Never seen consultant although a variety of doctors have been assessing me. Would prefer same doctor for continuity. Communication with doctors could be improved and would to be more involved in my treatment plan. Food seems to be good sometimes but not so good at others - portion size not big enough for some things if you feel like eating. Clean bed area - cleaning staff are excellent. Ward can be too warm at times - was given fan for bedside which was appreciated. TVs could be better - bit of a nuisance having to get up for remote control.

Dear UHW1

It is disappointing to hear that you were unhappy with the quality of food during your stay in the ward. In common with most other hospitals in Scotland, we operate a four-week menu cycle with four main course options, including salads, fresh fruit and sandwiches, on offer at lunch and supper time. All meals have been assessed by dieticians to ensure they offer the appropriate nutritional intake and balance for patients and comply with national guidelines.

We hold public food tasting sessions twice every year, we also undertake quarterly patient surveys across all wards to ascertain patient satisfaction. We apologise if the food was not always at the same standard.

we will pass on your comments to the domestic staff about the excellent cleaning standards you commented on.

Regards

William
