"Hip replaced"

About: Hexham General Hospital / Trauma and orthopaedics

I had my hip replacement on 4th July, I did not get back to ward 3 from surgery until around 6.45pm.

I can't thank the staff enough for the care given. I was up most of the night as I was in alot of pain (partly my rheumatoid arthritis and the wound) very uncomfortable lying on my back.

The night time staff gave me pain relief most of the night, found extra pillows to make me comfortable. Next day I was helped by the day staff to get washed and dressed. Not long after I had a visit from occupational therapy who organised equipment for when I returned home. The physio team were next, I started off on a zimmerframe, then onto 2 walking sticks.

After lunch I was advised that I could go home.

Nurse talked to me about the injections (luckily I had arranged for my sister to administer these at home) and other extra medication from my normal tablets that I would need for the next week or so. I also must mention the theatre staff who were so friendly as I was waiting to go in for my operation.

Dear Trish,

Thank you very much for taking the time to sit down and reflect over your experience of our service in Hexham. I hope you are recovering well and the exercises you were taught are going some way to giving you your mobility back?

I will share your comments with all of the teams you mention, I know it will mean the world to them.

Thanks again and take care,

Jan
