My Gp sent me to SAU for assessment as to whether I had an infection in a recent surgical procedure. This could have been very serious for me- sepsis? There was no urgency at all, no privacy, we could hear everyone else’s life story through the cubicle curtains, including when they’d had their last bowel movement. The nursing staff were centred around the desk. No one came near other than when we queried when I would be seen. Even when eventually seen, no offer of water, after 3 hours of waiting. We asked for a wheelchair so that I didn’t have to hobble to X-ray, and my partner was told to go and find one on floor B. All in all, a shocking indictment of so called care at this hospital. The phlebotomist told me not to complain about waiting as “ it’s free”. We ALL pay for this so called service, and how unprofessional! The only professional person we encountered was the admin on the ward who did her best to progress my being seen. I was told that someone would call me to relate my blood test results and I have had to call the hospital myself. As a supporter of NHS I am really upset and shocked at the demise of our nursing profession.
