To be honest I am still in a state of shock as to how quickly all this enfolded. I thought I had a tummy bug but it turned out to be a badly infected gallbladder. I was diagnosed on the
Friday evening in A and E. I left the hospital Saturday 1.15am feeling relieved that the dreadful pain was controlled. My husband dropped me for further tests at 8am,luckily I live a few hundred yards away from the hospital. I thought I would have the tests, be patched up and if I needed an operation, with NHS resources how they are,
I would have to wait a while.I was looked after initially by the new Ambulatory Care Department. They were first class. Everyone who dealt with me from nursing staff to surgeons were brilliant. I must have seemed a bit of a sad Billy no mates sat all day on my own. I was wheeled into surgery at 5.35pm and came round about 9.30pm. I was taken over night to ward 15 and they were terrific as well. Nothing was too much bother. They made sure my pain levels were controlled and I was as comfortable as I could be given the 4 holes in my abdomen.
I can't thank them enough. The toast and jam I had on the ward at 11.15pm was the best meal I had had in days. Discharge was rapid. I was home by midday to enjoy the Cricket World Cup Final ( tho I had started watching it on hospital tv FREE!!!! as well)
We are so lucky to have this facility and such brilliant professionals in Cramlington. Thank you so much for your care. It makes me realise what a jewel in the crown our NHS is and how we must look after it.
