"Disappointing food and cleaning issues"

About: University Hospital Hairmyres / Care of the Elderly (Wards 13-16)

(as a volunteer/advocate),

Fantastic care no complaints. staff go out of their way. cleaning issues, marks on the floor, in toilet, looks like poo. Been here since Monday.

Only had soup, didn't like look of it, had chiche but rotten, tea like dishwater, husband brings in food.

Dear jcl1

I am sorry that you found the toilet area within the ward unsatisfactory during your admission. The toilets are cleaned twice a day and more frequently if required. However due to the high activity on the ward there are occasions when incidents occur between the planned cleans.

You say you found the standard of food unsatisfactory. Catering in hospital is very difficult a lot of work has been carried out to monitor and improve standards. The evidence from audits show patients appear to be more satisfied with the food provided If patients are not enjoying the meals or choices available family often provide food for their relative. If staff are made aware of issues with meals we are happy to alert catering staff who will come to the ward to discuss any concerns.

Regards

William
