"My husband's cancer care"

About: Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust - City Campus / General surgery Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust - Queen's Medical Centre Campus / General surgery Nottinghamshire County Teaching PCT / District nursing

(as a relative),

My husband was diagnosed with non operable cancer in September 2010.

Because of his fitness and his attitude he was offered gruelling chemotherapy and radiotherapy. His case was dealt with in a sympathetic and caring way and he had treatment until early 2011. His aftercare at this time was good, and any problems dealt with as they arose.

Unfortunately his cancer had spread, but it was dealt with on a 'most urgent' first basis. The specialists, doctors, nursing staff and administrative staff were all efficient and helpful. His oncology treatment was dealt with at the Nottingham City Hospital, and he also had an operation in the Queens Medical Centre, Nottingham.

Because of the treatment he received he was able to walk his daughter into her wedding and it was one of the proudest days of his life.

Unfortunately the cancer spread quicker than was anticipated and he died in the City Hospital on 11 May 2012.

I can only thank all the staff concerned from the top specialist down to the trolley ladies and cleaners. They were all caring, respectful and cheerful at what was a difficult time for the family and I cannot thank them enough for all that they did.
