I want to say a giant THANK YOU to all the staff on the day surgery unit who cared for my son today.
I arrived with my proverbial hackles up because I had previously had a terrible experience with my daughter.
However I was so pleasantly surprised I cannot rate the standard of care highly enough , I listened to interactions with other patients too and everyone received the same first class standard of care, compassion , empathy and respect . It was commendable . My son is 16 years old not a child, but not yet an adult either it’s that no mans land between 16 and beyond . Chronologically we may be a certain age and stage but emotionally and developmentally we might not be …so it needs to be assessed on an individual basis … the staff were just brilliant with him , everything was so appropriate , every single member of staff ? The same open, friendly , informed , approachable , helpful way with smiles and I don’t doubt must be hard to smile sometimes when you are run off your feet as exhausted but I cannot thank them enough . I feel it’s really important to celebrate success ( I was a social worker so I know that’s rare sometimes ) and clearly that unit and those incredible humans provide a model of how things should be done. My son has decided in the car on the way home that instead of being an engineer having just left school that he might consider nursing. He spoke with some male nurse at some stage in proceedings .Have you any idea how challenging it is to inspire a teenager ?! So Kudos to that nurse I needed to find a way to say Thank you 😊 from the bottom of my heart .
