"Frustration"

In many respects I am extremely fortunate in that I hardly ever need to go to doctors, just routine health checks etc. I probably conform with the stereotypical image of a male only going when I really need to. However, just returned from a walking holiday in Wales where I ended up needing to go into the walk in centre in Llandovery to look at one of my feet that had become infected. They saw me immediately, dressed my foot, provided antibiotics (free - no prescription charges in Wales) and suggested I then go to the GP surgery next door to arrange for the dressings to be changed in a few days time. This I did and got an appointment 2 days later no problem...and I'm a visitor remember...They then suggested I ring my own surgery when I get home to arrange for them to change the dressings again. I tried, but the earliest I could get to see the practice nurse was 8 days away. So have done it myself. My foot is still swollen but is improving so not overly concerned, but to wait 8 days to change dressings doesn't sound too hygienic to me. I hadn't realised that Matt Hancocks vision of giving patients the power to manage their own healthcare included being a GP! Also don't understand how the responses to the reviews are always suggesting going to A&E - thought the policy was supposed to be the other way round?
