Today I had an accident at work, when the sharp point of a glass pierced my hand and left me with a deep cut. It was a minor injury, but it wouldn't stop bleeding and visibly needed treatment - otherwise I would have treated it myself and saved myself the nightmare that followed. One of my colleagues recommended St Bart's hospital, as it was near our work place. When I arrived, I realised that there was no A&E department. Reception told me to go to Minor Injuries - which CLOSED at 4 PM! I only had 15 minutes, so I sprinted to the wing, only to find it already closed. I went back to reception again to ask what else could be done, and I was simply told to go to another hospital. I asked if there anyone at all in the building who could help me, and I was told no. How is it that in a HOSPITAL full of trained doctors and nurses, no one could see to my wound? I would not have taken up much of anyone's time. It could have been sorted in minutes. The staff at reception were so sweet and really did do their best to be helpful, but I was still appalled at just being turned away, especially while the cut was visibly bleeding through my bandages.
"Really disappointed"
