"Good solid proactive approach to care.. Open and..."

About: Grantham & District Hospital

What I liked

It was my mother who used this service. In fact she had been admitted to Grantham on 3 occasions this year and we were impressed on each occasion by the ethos of the hospital and the care given. My mother has been to 6 other hospitals over recent years and along with Basingstoke Hospital this scored the highest. As her main carer I had never been able to speak to doctors in the way I was able at Grantham. All staff were proactive in my Mother's care. In particular Ward 6 staff were exemplary. My mother died on this ward and my family and I were treated with such care and respect it was impossible to fault them. If every hospital ward operated as this one did I think we would all be very happy with the NHS.

My thanks to you all.

What could be improved

Taking this in context - the service was still good but the communication between the emergency assessment unit and the wards was patchy. Information had been gathered on my mother over a few days and this was not summarised at handover times.

Dear Mrs. Bradley - thank you very much for taking the time to feedback on your mothers, and your experience - especially at such a difficult time. I am very sorry that your mother died and would like to offer my condolences; it was good, however to hear that you felt well cared for at this time which is indescribably important at end of life. I have passed your feedback to staff at Grantham and particularly to Ward 6.

In relation to communication between EAU and the wards you make a valid point which incidentallly we were discussing only yesterday at our Professional Standards Committee and we have some work currently happening across the Trust around the quality of handovers. One of our matrons at Grantham has offered to pilot the new handover process in the next few weeks.

Thank you again.
