"Hospital floor plans and signage"

About: University Hospital Hairmyres

(as a relative),

My wife attended Hairmyres andd she got lost on exiting the A&E end of the x-Ray department and was unable to find her way back to me in the x-Ray waiting area.

All exit signs directed her to the main reception and x-Ray dept signs directed her to the general x-Ray reception.

I should add that she was not in any distress and is fully capable of finding her way in a hospital.

People attending hospital are generally agitated, worried and sometimes distraught and deserve clear and accurate signage, particularly in the confusing zig-zag layout of Hairmyres.

Dear Another lost patient,

Thank you for taking the time to get in touch, I hope your wife is recovering.

The floor plans at University Hospital Hairmyres have been updated in the last six months and as part of this review we are considering additional lower level wall signage which our graphics department is currently working on. These will need to be tested and approved before being installed; but here is an example:

Dear another lost patient,

I hope this finds you and your family well.

By way of update, we presented some of our proposed visualisations to the NHS Lanarkshire Public Reference Forum and we have subsequently formed a "Signage Improvement Group" to review hospital signage which is being led by our Head of Evidence and includes public representation.

Kind regards

Rick
