"possible basal cell carcinoma"

About: Cumberland Infirmary / Dermatology

I visited the dermatology outpatient department in February 2019 and was told I definitely needed surgery which I would be brought in for in around 8 weeks. I have since phoned the dermatology secretaries on several occasions enquiring about the delay as I still have not received word of my procedure some 20 weeks later. Secretaries rather abrupt on phone.

I am very sorry that your experience with the Dermatology outpatient department has been less than expected and that you were given misleading information about the current waiting list time for surgery.

You mention that you have tried to enquire about this by calling the secretaries and you found their manner abrupt... Rudeness is never acceptable even when the staff who answered your call may have been under pressure in such a busy department. This is not the care we normally provide as our aim is to provide a high standard of care to all of our patients therefore I completely understand why this wait has left you feeling frustrated and anxious.

Unfortunately whilst your contact remains anonymous this is difficult for me to investigate further.

We value all feedback and I will share this with the relevant senior staff in the department so that they are aware of the situation.

Once again, please accept my sincere apologies for how this has made you feel,

Best regards,

Alison S-D
