I have just returned home from a month's stay in UHND. The nursing care was second to none in 99% of cases and I couldn't praise them highly enough. They were always pleasant, caring and helpful .A couple of nurses took extra care to give me a shower and do my hair which made me feel 100% better. However I was treated by 2 nurses whose attitude to me left a lot to be desired. One in particular was surly and unfriendly. It was as if I was a complete nuisance. I was shouted at, called a "fibber" and left to lie in my own faeces for over an hour. I was totally humiliated. My dinner was plonked on the table and because I was only able to use one hand, I needed assistance. More than once my dinner ended up in my lap or on the floor. This of course did not please the nurse in question. I fell in the shower onto my bad wrist and bruised my back and spent a few minutes under a cold shower which I had inadvertently switched on on the way down. This was not reported as an accident or passed on to the day shift who were very surprised. They immediately sent for a doctor to check me over (arrived several hours later). My biggest problem was the TV in the room which was monopolised by the patient in the bed opposite. . This drove me to distraction. I eventually put earphones on and plugged into my computer but it only partially blocked the sound. This went on until 10 or 11 o' clock some nights .Sorry, it sounds as though my experience was all negative.
I received excellent care from the physio team and the food was good.
I will still have to continue with follow up care in the next few weeks.
