My mum who was in her early 80's had a bad stroke.
When I called the ambulance the lovely lad on the phone was so kind he said he would keep talking to me until the ambulance arrived. I knew because we live in a rural location we would be 20 minutes until an ambulance arrived.
The ambulance drivers were so good with mum and got her to the hospital as soon as possible.
Arriva bay 1 at the Victoria Hospital took over her care and they were so good they did every test quickly and kept me informed every step of the way as to what was happening and what the results were. They told me the truth in a kind way and she was really very unwell.
Mum was then moved up to high dependency and the care she got there was truly amazing, the physio staff tried everything to get the fluid off of her lungs and the nursing staff were nothing short of angels. However by the weekend it was obvious that she wasn't going to win this battle.
On the Monday, mum had made the decision that she wanted to stop the treatments. From there on the care was so kind. Mum passed away quietly in a private room on the stroke ward.
If I ever find myself in a similar position I truly hope I find myself being cared for by such truly amazing staff as the Victoria Hospital in Kirkcaldy.
"Truly amazing staff at the Victoria Hospital"
