I attended at Pontefract hospital to give a blood sample for my ongoing medical treatment.
There was a group of phlebotomists sat chatting.
There wasn’t a queue and so was asked to go through by a female.
I sat down and she proceeded to take the required blood samples.
She didn’t wash her hands before or after taking my blood.
She didn’t wear gloves. Which I don’t have a problem with if they wash their hands.
She didn’t wipe my skin clean. Some do some don’t. But she touched me to find the vein.
She will have touched the last person too, and no doubt didn’t wash.
After taking the blood she left the cubicle before I did to rejoin the conversation taking place with the other phlebotomists. So I know she didn’t wash.
She also wore a scruffy fleece that covered her arm over her wrist. Arnt staff meant to have bare arms to the elbow?
She didn’t wear an apron either.
Why didn’t I say anything? I shouldn’t have to. I didn’t feel able to as it’s rather confrontational when someone is just about to sick a needle in your arm.
Why wouldn’t a health professional be professional. She let the department down.
"Bloods at Pontefract hospital staff didn’t wash..."
