"Experience of a short stay in A&E"

About: Leicester Royal Infirmary / Accident and emergency

My wife was sent to A&E from Loughborough Emergency Care Centre late on June 30 with low sodium electrolyte levels. She was dealt with sympathetically by all the staff that came into contact with her. Blood samples were taken and we had to wait for the results and staff to consider them. As she would most probably be kept in, I left to go home about 2:30 am. More about that later. She was discharged about 5:30 pm, feeling improved, and the copy of the GP letter gave what we believe to be excellent advice regarding minimising any future occurrence of the problem, along with further blood tests and making an appointment with the Urology Dept. We are very grateful for all the care, effort and professional approach of the staff. Just one small point. When

I tried to leave the A&E Dept in the early hours, just trying to reach my car parked in the disabled bays near the Childrens Emergency Unit (we have a Blue Badge), a friendly short-cut into the adjacent main building left me lost, trying to exit through sliding doors that were either padlocked or switched off, with no-one around to ask for help. It took me 20 to traverse what would have been at the most 150 yards as the crow flies. Coincidentally, another spouse with his wife had exactly the same experience that night too! Would it be possible to flag a route from A&E to the disabled bays that wouldn't cause such problems for the disabled?
