"Oliver fisher neonatal unit"

I couldn’t thank the unit enough as they saved my baby!! My waters broke 2 months early and I was rushed to hospital having to undergo an emergency c-section. This unit saved my baby, I found most of the staff very friendly and having been there for a month you get close to a few. They update you every day on things that had changed and their plan moving forward. They really encourage you to interact with your baby even when they are all wired up. I had many break downs as obviously it’s a horrific situation to be in but the staff are there to say it’s ok and everything will be fine. My only down fall with the entire experience was a nurse said to my husband you should have brought in pads when you came in (this wasn’t this unit but delivery) we were completely shocked we just gone through the most awful thing we’ve ever had to go through and a employee is being sarcastic over a maternity pad. When I was in the Oliver Fisher Unit I found it really hard to pump in front of people at first to the point I would cry because I didn’t feel comfortable. I Asked if I could pump in one of their stay in rooms and explained the situation as the rooms were empty and the pumping room which only sits 2 people were being used. I was then told by a lady sitting at reception you should be able to pump next to your baby I completely broke down ( the unit at the time had everyone’s husbands/partners in there) and I do feel some staff just don’t see the other side to things as they work there everyday a screen won’t cover you completely by all angles. Me feeling like that didn’t last long as you do get so used to it but you do have days you feel extra delicate and you just need people to be on your side and understand instead of saying silly comments. It just made me feel very alone and that no one cared. Also I did get shouted at by a receptionist shouting ‘excuse me’ when I turned round she said can you wash your hands. I had been at the unit for 3 weeks my hands were full of bags so I replied yes once I’ve put my bags down I will wash them. As a parent who was there everyday all day the receptionists should have recognised me and known that every time I walked into the unit I always washed my hands, everyone was just starring at me I was mortified. Over all they were just silly things and the Unit as a whole is amazing. I never left the hospital worrying about my baby as I knew she was in the best place and that’s the main thing she was well looked after. So thank you so much !!!
