I was transferred to North Manchester last week from Oldham with a kidney stone obstruction that led to a severe infection. In the end, I stayed for 8 nights (3 on ward C3 and 5 on D5). Ward C3, despite being very cramped, was absolutely fine. The staff were wonderful and everything was clean. However, on D5 I encountered problems. It's worth saying once again that the staff were all wonderful. These people are incredibly overworked and are being stretched further and further. But I found the nursing staff and the doctors alike all considerate and genuinely lovely. On my second or third night on D5, I saw a mouse scurry across the floor of my room. I called a nurse in who confirmed they were aware of it but couldn't do much as it had already been reported. So I was basically just to lie there knowing there's a mouse scurrying about the place. The same happened a couple of nights later in the bed across from me where a lady lay trying to recover from infection while a mouse was scurrying around her room. The staff were equally as scared as patients of these pests. This is a HUGE infection issue, surely? There will be mouse droppings behind cupboards that aren't cleaned behind and I don't see how any hospital in a developed nation in the 21st Century should be housing patients on wards where the's clearly a mouse infestation.
"Amazing Staff - But MICE on Wards!!"
