"A month to get an appointment!"

About: Penn Hill Surgery, Yeovil

I have been with this surgery for around a couple of years now and not been entirely satisfied with the level of service received. Generally getting through on the phones for an appointment has taken me anything up to 30 minutes before. When you finally do get through there is always a significant delay in getting an appointment, anything from 2 weeks to a month. Maybe it's because before I've been with smaller local surgeries before, rather than town centre ones, but I don't think it's reasonable to have to wait a month for appointments. The last appointment I had was with not with my GP, in an attempt to cut down the waiting time, and I don't know if he was having a bad day or something, but bedside manner wasn't at the top of his list of priorities. Rushed me through, didn't want to listen to what I had to say and really just left me feeling stupid and frustrated like I was wasting his time of something. I'm sure this surgery isn't alone and it's more an "NHS issue", but I get the impression they are short staffed, overworked and don't want to be there.

I am sorry to hear of the difficulties you have had both with accessing the surgery via the telephone system and with your consultation with a GP here.

We are working with the supplier of our new telephone system to improve how it is set up and have also increased the number of staff available to answer telephone calls.

We do constantly review our waiting times for appointments and try to keep the waiting time for routine appointments to 2-3 weeks.

There are always urgent same day appointments available.

I would be happy to discuss your dissatisfaction with your consultation with you in person should you wish to contact me and may I apologise that you felt our service was poor on this occasion.

Louise Walker, Practice Manager
