"My Cancer Care Journey"

About: Crystal Peaks Medical Centre Weston Park Hospital

(as the patient),

I was first diagnosed with breast cancer a few years ago and have had a lumpectomy, radiotherapy and have been on a drug trial. After effects have been osteo parosis, peripheral neuropathy and I had a dvt which we felt could have been related to cancer related fatigue.

I have nothing but praise for the staff at Weston Park who were brilliant. Particularly good at explaining things and keeping me informed about the drug trial. My GP at Crystal Peaks surgery was brilliant, caught the diagnosis early and referred me straightaway to the hospital.

One of my worries has been the effect on my husband. It feels like I am not allowed to tell people that my husband needs help, because he has to do that himself. He is reluctant to do that and I wonder whether there can be a way to try to engage him and others like him.

Thank you for publishing your story and for the positive feedback that you have provided.

I am sorry that your husband has experienced difficulties with coming to terms with things and has found it difficult to seek help. I will pass your comments on to senior managers at Weston Park Hospital for them to consider.

Kind regards
