My CBT therapy started off fairly hopeful in terms of the therapist seeming friendly, however CBT was not my therapy of choice but all that was on offer unfortunately. The therapist was a little hyper or anxious and spoke very quickly at the first session which wasn't very calming but I thought I'd give her a chance. Over the weeks she had an agenda that she wanted to follow, was quite rigid and showed when she wasn't happy with a choice made - she also displayed some anxiety and disorganisation. Towards the end she was quite rude when homework hadn't been completed none occasion and abruptly said it wasn't worth coming for the appointment. I thought therapists were supposed to work with client issues not judge and behave in a punitive manner. She ignored emails to book further sessions and I never got another appointment or finished the twelve sessions. I felt disappointed with my experience, the relationship supposedly been built up over the weeks-again - with IAPTS - was false. I wouldn't use IAPTS again - supervision of staff is inadequate and there is unprofessionalism. I believe better, longer training is required for staff AND they need their own therapy, some of them clearly need to explore their own issues before being let loose on vulnerable people.
