My birth went really well. The room as great (with the exception of the shower in the bathroom which had no hot water, I really needed a proper shower after birth, but was not able to get one). My primary midwife was new at a birth centre and so I could see she had some "hospital mind set", however she was kind, calm and reassuring. The second midwife that came during pushing was absolutely amazing. I would give a 5 out 5 for my birthing process. When it came to aftercare, breastfeeding was a nightmare and my son would not eat. I didn't get the attention necessary to help feed the baby and I was the one who realised he was jaundice. Only when a breastfeeding specialist showed up almost 48h later and I was exhausted, sleep deprived and desperate,
I was given the advice needed. My recommendation would be that if the birth centre is not equipped to help with breastfeeding than it should discharge mothers with a referral to specialist after care. All and all I would have another baby there now that I have more knowledge, but I would recommend new mums : Advocate for yourself if you feel neglected after the baby is born and you need help feeding your baby.
"Amazing birth experience, not so amazing aftercare"
