"The majority were fantastic nurses"

About: Borders General Hospital / Accident & Emergency Borders General Hospital / General Medicine

(as a service user),

I had an unexpected admission through A&E to ward 6 for 24 hours. Everyone in A & E was fantastic. The fact a shift change took place whilst I was there made no difference to my care. Everyone that I saw in the department could not have done more to look after me and make me as comfortable as they could.

Whilst on ward 6 the majority  were fantastic nurses, but there were unfortunately one or two who negatively impacted on my view of the ward. Being told to get back to bed when enquiring about medication that I have taken for years and was due to have had did not go down well with me. And the medication never did arrive at my bed for that dose! Clear that the staff in general in this ward were doing their best in very difficult circumstances- even with those who need to perhaps think before they speak.

Dear angus0810

I was sorry to hear that you required an admission to Ward 6 at Borders General Hospital following an attendance at our Emergency Department (ED) and I hope you have now fully recovered.

Thank you for sharing the details of your positive experience within ED, it is great to hear that the staff could not have done more to look after you and kept you comfortable throughout your time there. Your feedback has been shared with the ED staff who are appreciative of you taking the time to share your story on Care Opinion.

I am very sorry that your experience in Ward 6 was not as positive. We expect our staff to treat patients with dignity and respect at all times and I can therefore only apologise about your experience with members of our nursing team when asking about your medication. I will share your feedback with the nursing staff so that they are aware of how you were made to feel.

If you would like to discuss your experience in Ward 6 in more detail, please do not hesitate to contact me on (01896) 827202.

Regards,

Karen

Thank you for your response. I would like to make sure that you are clear the vast majority of staff on the ward were caring and professional. There were only 2staff members whose manner was not appropriate.
