A while ago I was admitted to this unit by my GP because I had immense pain and swelling in my upper thigh as well as redness. Upon arriving at the ward I was promptly looked over by the doctors and after a few tests they confirmed that I had a DVT. I was given some blood thinning medication and an appointment was made with a haematologist to get to the bottom of what caused it (I’m a relatively healthy 24 year old male with no other long term medical conditions)
After around 2 weeks or so I was given an appointment with Dr Watson at haematology and he was without a doubt one of the best doctors I’ve ever dealt with, he referred me for all the tests he believed would help sort the issue and he did a great job at explaining the results of these tests and what was going to happen next in a way that both myself and my anxious parents could understand.
All the tests came back as clear and it was found that the DVT was a spontaneous one that came on without any real cause so Dr Watson informed me that I’d most likely need to take blood thinning medication for the rest of my life. I’ve been taking them every day as instructed and I’m now pretty much back to normal. After conducting some research on deep vein thrombosis I thoroughly believe that the quick diagnosis and the absolutely amazing care I received from start to finish is the reason I’ve had no lasting complications.
