"Staff are heroes"

About: Older Adult Mental Health / Dovedale Ward

(as a staff member posting for a patient/service user),

When someone is discharged from Dovedale they are sent an ‘exit questionnaire’ they can complete this in their own time and send it back to the ward. Below is a summary of someone’s responses.

My privacy and dignity was respected at all times and I always felt safe in my surroundings. I found the experience of being in the MDT / Ward round very useful. I always received enough information about the ward and had meetings with my named nurse to discuss my care and felt I saw the doctor regularly enough. I was offered a copy of my care plan and was given the necessary information about my medication. I think there were enough activities on the ward that I was able to participate in and I was offered occupational therapy regularly.  I knew the arrangements for my follow-up care and had confidence in the staff that worked with me.

Overall it was a good experience, it did the job. All staff were excellent and caring.

If I had to describe two things that helped me during my stay I would say it was meeting mostly nice people, staff and patients alike. Occupational Therapy sessions were helpful.  When thinking about what could be improved I think you could do with more bathing and toilet facilities.

I think the staff are heroes, nursing, support and housekeeping staff do a wonderful job in sometimes stressful circumstances.

I would firstly like to thank you for your comments, I have fed back to the team and am extremely happy to hear about the positive input you feel you gained from the team on Dovedale Ward. I have made sure to feedback that you felt included in your care and got great enjoyment out of being able to participate in activities on the ward.

We are constantly assessing our facilities to make sure these are up to date and offer the best for our service users and in the longer term will be moving to a new building with all new facilities provided. We are restricted for space, but take on board your comment re more bathing facilities and will endeavour to make sure our new building has adequate facilities moving forward.

Once again thank you.
