"I felt like I got no help at all"

About: Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh at Little France / Accident & Emergency

(as a service user),

My GP had sent me up to A&E at the RIE to be seen as I was in a lot of pain due to my Endometriosis and getting left sided pain. I arrived and was seen quite quickly by the student nurse (I don’t know her name but she was from edin uni) can I just say that I thought she was kind and understanding and listened to me, she really is going to be a good nurse when she qualifies. Can this be passed onto her please?

I was seen by the doctor who I’ll give her credit she tried but because I’m getting surgery in August I was told gynae wouldn’t review me today and I’d see them in August. It was recommended I go home and take painkillers which I’d already been doing that weekend and still got no relief. I felt like I got no help at all and I left again without no answers. Fed up.

Dear Dionnex,

Thank you for your kindness towards our student nurse. I will endeavour to find her and let her know how much you appreciated her listening.

It sounds like your visit was otherwise very frustrating and I'm sorry we weren't able to help more. It sounds like you are having an awful time.

We'd be keen to hear how the referral process could be improved. If this is something you'd be willing to discuss please can you contact us at: feedback@nhslothian.scot.nhs.uk referencing this post?

I hope this week is better for you.

Best wishes,

Sara
