"Made me feel so settled and calm"

About: Queen Elizabeth University Hospital Glasgow / General surgery (Wards 9a, 9b, 9c & 9d)

(as the patient),

I was taken to the Queen Elizabeth in Glasgow to get an operation on my spine. On arrival I met the nurses etc and they made me feel so settled and calm. I was taken down to get my op and the anaesthetists were very friendly and easy going, they kept me relaxed before my op. After my op I woke up and was in ward 63. I couldn’t commend the staff enough, they were totally amazing and very attentive. Especially Stacey who was nightshift, she was full of fun and always so happy which got everyone else in a good mood too. Plus she was there for anything you needed no matter how big or small and no matter what time of night it was, it was never an issue. Ashley who worked during the day was amazing too, even when they were very short staffed she still managed to attend to us and deal with anything we asked of her, nothing was ever too big or too small, always dealt with well and always with a smile and a happy face. Even if it was a tough question from some families she had all the answers to make them feel at ease. I defo think the staff in there are way under appreciated and defo under paid for what they do. They are super heroes to me. They are defo due a pay rise from what I’ve seen 😊

Dear Rossco2211,

Thank you for getting in touch.

I am delighted that you found all the staff welcoming within the Neuroscience Unit and that this made you feel settled and calm prior to your surgery.

It was pleasing to read that the staff were attentive and happy to help answer your questions. As you say, this can often be a worrying time and being given the answers can be very reassuring.

I will share your post with the anaesthetic and ward 63 staff especially Ashley and Stacey and I am sure they will appreciate your kind words.

Best wishes for your recovery.

Regards

Elaine Burt
