In May 2019 I was admitted to Ward 212 in Aberdeen Royal Infirmary with a broken hip. I was operated on the next day early morning and returned to the ward. The anaesthetist carefully explained the procedure beforehand, followed by the surgeon.  Everything possible was done to make sure that I was fully prepared and aware of what would happen. 

Back in the ward I cannot praise the nursing staff enough.  Patient,  caring, enthusiastic, cheerful and charming, nothing was too much trouble for them. They developed a friendly repartee with each patient to help put them at their ease.

The organisation was flawless, lovely meals with a wide range of courses, vegetarian options too, served piping hot by friendly staff.

Overall a very pleasant experience that significantly helped in my recovery. Thank you and well done.

Dear TimS

Many, many thanks for taking the time to post your story on Care Opinion. Reading it makes my heart swell with pride for what our staff do every day. It also reminds us of what matters to patients and what is important to them. We know it is not just the technical stuff that makes for excellence in care but the manner in which care and services are delivered? It is so lovely to hear that our staff displayed all the qualities of compassion and care that we would wish.

I am grateful to you also for highlighting the link between a positive experience and a quicker recovery. It is something that we need to focus on for the greater good of all of our NHS patients.

I thank you again for sharing your story. I will ensure that staff in Ward 212 get a chance to read this feel proud.

I hope you are now recovering well from your injury and surgery and wish you well for a pleasant, sunny and active summer!
